Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry has signed a memorandum of understanding with Techpedia to develop a platform where small and medium enterprises and informal sector could tap the potential of the students and faculty of engineering institutions to get their technological problems addressed. Techpedia is an NGO under Sristi that works under the supervision of IIM-Ahmedabad professor Anil Gupta.
Says Bhavik Gattani, a member of Techpedia, “Often the industry faces technological problems while manufacturing its products but most of the time industry either neglects them or doesn’t feel the need to invest time to solve the issues. Recognising this, GCCI has taken the initiative which can give solutions to many problems.”
Contributing to the industry
As part of their curriculum, final year engineering students have to do industry projects which often remain unutilised. GCCI will offer the students live projects which will help them not only meet their academic requirements, but also contribute to the industry.
Managing Director Hiranmay Mahanta says, “The idea of students taking up projects offered by GCCI and other industries in the last semester through Techpedia will make the work of students more challenging and interesting. Industry will be more than happy to get solutions to their problems. It is a win-win for all concerned.”
Techpedia will act as a mediator between the industry and the campus. “Techpedia approached GCCI whose members run nearly 70,000 industrial units across the state. GCCI sent a circular to its members and many have sent in their problems,” Dattani said.
According to GCCI Secretary General Hasmukh Hingu, the project will function under the guidance of National Mentoring Network headed by former CSIR director general R A Mashelkar. |
