26 Sep,2011 : GTU to foster bio-med innovations
|
Ahmedabad: Gujarat Technological University's (GTU) Innovation Council is working to create a sectoral innovation council for biomedical engineering. This council will foster innovations in this sector across the state and will involve industries, policy-makers, students and faculties for this work.
Three meetings were organised in the past few weeks with both faculties and students participating to have a preliminary plan of action. Students participated in great numbers in these meetings. They presented their IDPs and took suggestions from experts not only from their respective disciplines but also from fields such as intellectual property rights (IPR), design and technology transfer.
Students took the lead at the meetings. They coordinated the meetings and arranged a series of talks involving faculties and experts. Students have also started working under the guidance of mentors on topics such as telemetry-based ECG monitoring and data logger for diagnostic equipment using USB, among others.
The other concepts on which work is on include automatic control of hydrostatic pressure for irrigation during phaco surgery; rate responsive pacemaker; and wireless battery charger for implantable devices, among others.
