A phase converter is a device is capable of changing a phase from 1-phase to 3-phase. Phase converter is reliable & inexpensive. Rotary and Static converters handle regenerative power fairly well because two of the three phase leads are connected directly to the single phase line. Regenerative current from these two legs flows back to the utility unimpeded. There are 3 types of phase converters: Static Phase Converter, Rotary Phase Converter, VFD as a Phase converter are used. Their efficiency is high. In industry generally rotary phase converter is used. Recently in industry digital & VFD phase converters are used.
