This project is one of a small effort to explore the vast possibility of simplest drive for bicycle to obtain speed variation. The bicycle is a very common transportation service and presently the bicycle drives are based on complex transmission methods and smooth speed shifting problems. If they can be replaced by something that is simpler in the sense of design, operation, manufacturing and less in cost without any considerable compromising in effectiveness of drive is appreciated. In this project a proposed design of traction drive with conical roller is developed for bicycle transmission having self actuating characteristics. Concept generation of drive is done for checking out possibilities and 3D modeling in Pro-Engineer software. MATLAB programs were made to evaluate the dimension of drive’s parts by trial and error method and stress calculation. Contact stress analysis is done for roller-roller contact and roller-output contact surface with ANSYS. We can apply the self actuating traction drive with conical rollers instead of using conventional transmission in the light of a
