This thesis includes the study and simulation of four quadrant chopper, various types braking of DC Motor. The project report also includes the hardware to implement a four quadrant chopper for the desired speed control. Nowadays in the motor applications we sometimes require forward and reverse motoring modes as well as forward and reverse braking of the motor. For the DC motor applications e.g. Traction systems, there is a Four-Quadrant chopper which can be used for all the various modes of operation of a motor. More often we are having problems of saving electricity and fuel. By using the regeneration in the motors we can save electricity and we can even supply power to the source. Hence this is proved to be very economical and energy saving concept for the working of the motor applications. The use of Electric Railway Engines in recent time has increased because of pollution caused by diesel locomotive and the fact that when the train is coming down from the down gradient, it does not require any power and hence because of the high inertia the motors used in traction systems c
