In today’s era, foundry business is not a mere casting manufacturing but supplying fully
finished castings ready to assemble. This has put a tremendous pressure on foundries to built
in house machine shop and it shares 30-40% of the investment portfolio. Here to justify the
customer requirement in terms of quality, quantity and price we have introduced several
alternate methods of machining Motor Bodies by using JIT concepts. like Simplification,
Reducing Setup time, Using Work cell & Cellular manufacturing, Reducing inventory, Lean
manufacturing, Smoothen Material movement.
Objectives:
1. Use of minimum manpower
2. Smooth process
3. Assigned skilled and unskilled worker separately
4. Minimize unvalued added activity
5. To reduce setup time
6. Layout of equipment in such a way so as to minimize both travel distances and
inventories between the machines

7. To cross train the workers in multifunction to maintain and enable them to run several
machines at a time
This has resulted in 25% of the estimated investment.
